The administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced Friday, May 1, 2026, as a public holiday in observance of this year’s International Workers’ Day.
The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who extended congratulations to workers nationwide for their contributions to the country’s development.
This was disclosed in an official statement issued on Wednesday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani.
Tunji-Ojo praised Nigerian workers for their dedication and commitment, noting that their efforts remain vital to the nation’s progress and economic stability. He urged workers to continue demonstrating patriotism, diligence, and productivity in their respective roles.
According to the statement, the Federal Government remains committed to improving workers’ welfare and ensuring a secure and enabling environment for economic growth.
The Minister also called on Nigerians to maintain peace and uphold the law during the holiday, encouraging citizens to reflect on the values of unity and hard work in nation-building.
