“I thought I earned ₦5,100, only to get ₦80” — Young boy laments Palmpay referral experience

A young boy has taken to social media to express frustration over his experience with the referral reward system of fintech platform PalmPay, claiming he was misled after completing multiple tasks.

Frustration over referral rewards sparks reactions

The incident, which has gained traction online, highlights growing concerns about transparency in promotional offers by digital financial service providers.

According to his account, the boy said he resorted to borrowing data and funds to meet the requirements of the referral programme, believing he would receive a payout of over ₦5,000.

Observers note that similar complaints have surfaced in the past, particularly during aggressive promotional campaigns by fintech companies competing for user growth in Nigeria’s digital payments space.

Claims of misleading “trial cash” structure

CEO of Palmpay or whoever is running Palmpay, only God will judge you. You’ll ask for ice cream and they’ll give you water. You’ll ask for bread, they’ll give you Aboki bread,” he said, describing his disappointment after completing the process.

He further explained, “I used all my data to download movies, and when I realised I was broke, I turned to the Palmpay invite. I even invited my second SIM and borrowed data up and down to get ₦5,100. After all the stress and even borrowing money to complete the task, I found out that ₦5,020 is trial cash, and my actual reward is just ₦80.”

The post has since triggered mixed reactions, with some users criticising the platform’s reward structure, while others argue that users should carefully read terms and conditions before participating.
