By Fatima Muhammad Tanko — The Plateau State chapter of the Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has raised concerns over what it described as issues of inclusivity and fairness in Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s recent broadcast on the Anguwan Rukuba killings in Jos North Local Government Area.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Abubakar Sadiq Yusuf, the group commended the governor for his swift response, including his visit to the affected community and the imposition of a 48-hour curfew to prevent further escalation of violence.
MURIC also acknowledged the state government’s intervention in providing medical care for victims and its commitment to supporting burial arrangements.
However, the organisation expressed concern that the governor’s address did not specifically mention four Muslims reportedly killed and 10 others declared missing in the incident.
“While we acknowledge the governor’s concern for all victims, it is important to respectfully highlight that among those who lost their lives were four Muslims, with 10 others reportedly missing, whose mention was not captured in the address,” the statement said.
“For the sake of justice, equity and inclusivity, every victim must be recognised, regardless of religious or ethnic background,” it added.
The group also questioned remarks in the broadcast commending residents for avoiding reprisals, asking whether the identities of the perpetrators had been established.
MURIC called on security agencies to intensify investigations, ensure transparency and bring those responsible to justice, stressing that accountability remains key to restoring public trust.
It further urged residents of the state to embrace peaceful coexistence and avoid actions capable of deepening divisions.
