Kaduna APC denies anointing Senatorial aspirants, insists on fair primaries

The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has dismissed reports claiming that its leadership has endorsed or anointed candidates for upcoming senatorial and other elective positions.
In a statement issued by the State Chairman, Atiku Sankey, the party described the allegations as “baseless, unfounded, and politically motivated,” accusing unnamed individuals of spreading misinformation to create division within its ranks.
“It has come to the attention of the party leadership that certain unscrupulous elements are circulating rumours suggesting that the APC in Kaduna State and the governor have anointed preferred candidates. This narrative is entirely false and misleading,” the statement said.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles, stressing that candidate selection would strictly follow constitutional provisions and the Electoral Act.
“The APC remains a democratic institution founded on equity, fairness, and internal democracy. In line with the party constitution and Section 84(2) of the Electoral Act, candidates will emerge through direct primaries or consensus among aspirants,” it added.
While encouraging consensus arrangements where necessary to promote unity, the party clarified that such processes should not be misconstrued as imposition.
It further emphasised that neither the party nor Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has endorsed any individual for any elective office.
“The APC has not, does not, and will not anoint candidates at any level. We are committed to providing a level playing field for all aspirants,” the statement said.
The party urged members and the public to disregard the rumours and avoid spreading unverified information capable of undermining party unity, warning that disciplinary action would be taken against anyone found engaging in acts that could bring the party into disrepute.
It reiterated its commitment to unity, discipline, and credible electoral processes ahead of forthcoming elections.
