MTN Nigeria Secures Dual Global IT Certifications, Strengthens Technology Governance

MTN Nigeria Communications Plc has obtained two major international certifications in information technology service delivery and governance.

The company announced it has been awarded the ISO/IEC 20000 certification for IT Service Management Systems (ITSM) and the ISO/IEC 38500:2024 certification for IT Governance Management Systems, marking a significant milestone in its digital transformation and operational standards.

The ISO/IEC 20000 certification is a globally recognised benchmark for organisations that demonstrate strong capability in the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of IT services.

For MTN Nigeria, the certification validates its operational discipline, service quality framework, and ability to deliver consistent and customer-focused technology services aligned with international best practices.

In addition, the ISO/IEC 38500:2024 certification positions MTN Nigeria as the first telecommunications company in Nigeria and the first within the MTN Group to achieve the IT governance standard, highlighting its leadership in technology governance across the sector.

The governance certification covers the management of IT-enabled services, systems, and data across the organisation, ensuring alignment between technology operations and corporate strategy.

It also reinforces accountability, ethical decision-making, performance monitoring, and stakeholder engagement within the company’s IT structure.

Speaking on the achievement, Acting Chief Information Officer, Bukola Ajayi, said the certifications reflect the company’s commitment to delivering reliable, secure, and globally competitive technology services.

She noted that the milestone underscores the strength of MTN Nigeria’s internal processes and the resilience of its technology teams.

From an operational standpoint, the certifications are expected to enhance service delivery efficiency, strengthen risk management frameworks, and improve system reliability across MTN Nigeria’s network infrastructure.

This is particularly significant given the company’s scale with over 87.3 million subscribers across Nigeria.

The development also aligns with MTN Nigeria’s broader strategy of building a future-ready organisation supported by scalable digital platforms, robust infrastructure, and responsible governance practices.

The company continues to invest in digital capabilities to support connectivity, enterprise solutions, and emerging technology services.
