Opposition using fake news to destabilise Tinubu’s Govt — Fani-Kayode raises alarm
A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has accused opposition figures of deploying fake news to destabilise the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and weaken the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mr Fani-Kayode, who is an ambassador-designate, made the allegation in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday titled, “Surely They Shall Gather.”
He claimed that the opposition’s strategy was aimed at creating tension within the ruling party and undermining confidence in its electoral chances.
“It is clear that the strategy of the opposition is to spread fake news in the media in order to create tension and panic in the ranks of the government and the ruling party, knock our heads together, create dissension in our ranks and plant doubts in our minds about our ability to win,” he said.
The former minister cited what he described as recurring false claims, including reports alleging that the Governor of Nasarawa State was working for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
“Every day, they come up with something new, like the fake news about the Governor of Nasarawa State working for Atiku. Tomorrow it will be someone else,” he added.
Drawing references from religious texts, Fani-Kayode expressed confidence that such efforts would fail.
“The Holy Bible says, ‘Surely they shall gather, but it shall not be of me. Whosoever gathers against thee shall be scattered for thy sake.’
“On its own part, the Holy Quran says, ‘Surely they are planning, but Allah is the greatest planner of all,’” he stated.
He warned that the political space was becoming increasingly charged and urged members of the APC and supporters of President Tinubu to remain united and prepared for a tough political contest.
“The space is getting heated up now and, judging by their level of desperation and their inclination for disinformation, those of us in the APC who are supporting President Tinubu must close ranks and brace ourselves for the mother of all struggles in 2027,” he said.
