The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has dismissed a viral video claiming a terrorist attack in Abuja, describing it as false and misleading.
In a statement posted on its X handle on Thursday, the command said there was no security breach anywhere in the FCT.
“The viral video alleging a terrorist attack in Abuja is FALSE and MISLEADING,” the statement said.
“There is no security breach anywhere in the FCT. Findings show the gunshots were edited and superimposed on unrelated footage.”
PUNCH Online reports that the debunked video claimed, “Gunshots are raining heavily in the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria as Fulani Islamic terrorists shoot and try hard to take over Abuja.”
The video sparked concerns among residents following its rapid spread on social media platforms on Thursday.
“The CP has ordered a forensic investigation to identify and apprehend those behind this deliberate attempt to incite panic,” the command said.
The police urged members of the public to disregard and stop sharing such content.
