The Ogun State Police Command on Wednesday sensitised residents on the dangers of electoral malpractices, including ballot box snatching and electoral violence.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Oluseyi said the sensitisation formed part of activities marking National Police Day and noted that the exercise was held simultaneously across area commands and divisions.
Photos of the exercise, sighted by our correspondent, showed officers engaging with students, transport union members, and residents.
He added that the sensitisation, led by the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, also focused on safety awareness and compliance with traffic regulations.
“Marking Day Three of Police Week, themed ‘Community Partnership: Building Trust,’ the exercise was held simultaneously across all area commands and divisions within the command.
“The sensitisation focused on educating members of the public on the dangers and prevention of electoral malpractice, including electoral violence and ballot snatching, as well as promoting road safety awareness and compliance with traffic regulations, thereby reinforcing collective responsibility for public safety,” Oluseyi said.
The PPRO added that the exercise ended with the distribution of free meals to residents.
“To further lighten the atmosphere and extend a hand of friendship, cooked meals, refreshing drinks, and souvenirs were distributed to the public, a gesture that was met with widespread delight and appreciation,” he said.
The PUNCH reports that the week-long programme, which commenced on Monday across the federation, is aimed at strengthening police-community relations.
