Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed Russia’s willingness to help mediate between Iran and the United States following the breakdown of recent diplomatic talks aimed at easing tensions in the Middle East.
According to a statement released by the Kremlin on Sunday, Putin conveyed Moscow’s readiness to support political and diplomatic efforts during a phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
The Kremlin said the Russian leader emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution and offered to assist in brokering a lasting settlement to the ongoing crisis.
“Vladimir Putin stressed his readiness to further contribute to efforts seeking a political and diplomatic solution and to help achieve a fair and durable peace in the Middle East,” the statement noted.
The development comes shortly after negotiations between Iran and the United States reportedly ended without any agreement in Islamabad, Pakistan. The discussions failed to produce meaningful progress, leading to the withdrawal of the entire US negotiating team.
Reports indicate that senior US figures involved in the talks left the country after extended discussions collapsed, with no continuation of back-channel diplomacy left in place in Islamabad.
A US official confirmed that no members of the delegation remained behind following the failed negotiations.
Meanwhile, Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused the US team of failing to build trust during the talks, stating that Iran had presented constructive proposals that were not adequately engaged.
The breakdown of the negotiations has raised fresh concerns over rising tensions in the Middle East, with diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation now appearing uncertain.
