The administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a ₦10 billion housing loan programme designed to boost home ownership among civil servants nationwide.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, announced the initiative on Friday during a press briefing in Abuja, stating that the scheme will be executed through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Government Staff Housing Loans Board.
She noted that the programme is aimed at improving workers’ access to affordable housing, stressing that home ownership plays a critical role in enhancing morale, stability, and productivity within the public service.
According to Walson-Jack, civil servants who own homes are more focused and motivated, as the assurance of a stable living environment positively influences their performance at work.
She further explained that the initiative reflects the administration’s broader governance philosophy, which prioritises the welfare and efficiency of public servants. A well-supported workforce, she said, is essential for delivering stronger national outcomes.
Beyond housing, the Head of Service highlighted ongoing reforms to modernise the civil service, including efforts to build a more digital, transparent, and innovation-driven system.
Reaffirming her commitment, she said the goal is to ensure civil servants are better equipped with the necessary skills, tools, and institutional support to thrive and contribute effectively.
Walson-Jack also credited the progress recorded so far to collaboration among key government institutions, including the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Budget Office, and the Office of the Accountant General.
She urged ministries, departments, and agencies to sustain this collaborative approach in policy implementation and service delivery.
Looking ahead, she said the upcoming International Workers’ Day would carry special significance this year, as civil servants can now point to tangible efforts recognising their contributions.
She concluded by commending public servants for their resilience and dedication, assuring them that their efforts are being acknowledged and rewarded.
