President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly denounced the recent wave of violent attacks in Plateau and Kaduna states, describing the perpetrators as “heartless cowards” and assuring Nigerians that justice will be served.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President condemned the killings in Angwan Rukuba area of Jos, Plateau State, as well as the attack in Kahir village, located in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Tinubu described the assaults including the killing and abduction of wedding guests in Kaduna as a grave violation of the nation’s values. He warned that such attacks are often aimed at provoking retaliation and escalating violence.
According to him, “Anyone who sneaks under the cover of darkness to kill defenceless citizens, as seen in Jos and Kahir village, is a heartless coward. These attacks on soft targets are designed not only to inflict harm but also to ignite cycles of reprisal and further bloodshed.”
The President directed security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible and crack down on individuals spreading misinformation capable of worsening tensions. He also cautioned against framing the incidents along religious lines.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to restoring peace, Tinubu stressed the importance of public cooperation with security directives, including evacuation and relocation measures where necessary.
He further urged security operatives to be more proactive by acting on intelligence to prevent future attacks and called for the immediate rescue of all abducted victims from Kahir village, while noting that two victims had already been safely recovered.
Tinubu commended Caleb Mutfwang and Uba Sani for their efforts in managing the crises and supporting rescue operations.
He also extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a speedy recovery, adding that the government is investing in advanced security equipment to enable real-time tracking and elimination of criminal elements across the country.
