President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Lagos to mark the Easter holiday, ahead of scheduled official engagements in Ogun State and Bayelsa State.
The presidential aircraft touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja around 8:40 p.m. on Thursday.
According to the Presidency, Tinubu is expected to commission several key infrastructure projects during his visit to Ogun State, including the cargo airport located in Iperu.
Prior to arriving in Lagos, the President made a brief stop in Jos, following recent deadly attacks in the area. During the visit, he assured residents that the Federal Government would deploy an artificial intelligence-powered network of over 5,000 surveillance cameras to support security operations across Plateau State.
Tinubu expressed sympathy to families affected by the March 29 attack in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area, where several lives were lost. He pledged that such incidents would not be allowed to recur.
The President directed key security chiefs, including Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa, Chief of Army Staff Waidi Shaibu, and Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu, to track down those responsible for the killings.
He also tasked the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijjani, with overseeing the immediate rollout of the surveillance system, starting in Jos and expanding across the state. The initiative is expected to build on similar security infrastructure already deployed in Lagos and Enugu.
While addressing grieving families at the Yakubu Gowon Airport, Tinubu acknowledged the depth of their loss, noting that no compensation could replace lives lost. He assured them that justice would be pursued and that government support would reach all affected victims.
In addition, the President directed the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Bernard Doro, to compile accurate data on those impacted to ensure fair distribution of relief.
Speaking to community leaders and stakeholders, Tinubu stressed the need for proactive strategies to prevent further violence, urging leaders to learn from past incidents and prioritize peace, security, and inclusive development.
