Governor Uba Sani has called for stronger collaboration with professional town planners to enhance urban development and land administration in Kaduna State.
The governor said his administration is prioritising transparency in land allocation, enforcement of development control regulations, and orderly urban expansion, alongside sustained investments in infrastructure and urban renewal projects aimed at improving residents’ quality of life.
Mr Sani made the remarks through his deputy, Hadiza Balarabe, when members of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, NITP, paid a courtesy visit to Sir Kashim Ibrahim House.
According to him, the state government has embarked on deliberate reforms to strengthen urban planning and land administration systems.
“However, we recognise that government cannot do this alone. We need the expertise, guidance and partnership of professional bodies such as yours.
Mr Your role in ensuring adherence to standards, building capacity and promoting innovation in planning practice is vital to achieving sustainable development outcomes,” he said.
The governor noted that his administration remains committed to both rural and urban development, adding that an ambitious plan anchored on massive infrastructure development is already underway.
“We hope that members of this institute will continue to offer expert advisory and technical services on how land use impacts social and economic development,” he added.
Mr Sani also highlighted the longstanding collaboration between Kaduna State and the institute, noting that the state’s planning history dates back to 1913, with successive master plans, spatial development frameworks and infrastructure blueprints guiding its growth.
He further disclosed that Kaduna State has been selected as one of the pilot states by the World Bank Group for the Nigerian Land Titling, Registration and Documentation Programme.
“In this regard, just recently, a team from the World Bank and the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development visited the state to review our land administration and governance systems,” he said.
Addressing the NITP delegation led by its Vice President, Kingsley Ogboli, alongside members of the Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria, the governor said the visit presents an opportunity to align priorities and deepen collaboration.
“Kaduna State remains open and committed to working with your institutions to build cities and communities that are not only well-planned, but also inclusive, safe and economically vibrant,” he added.
