Yusuf Buhari Declares Bid for Reps Seat in Katsina Ahead of 2027 Elections

Yusuf Buhari, son of Nigeria’s late former president, Muhammadu Buhari, has formally declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.

In a letter dated April 3, 2026, titled “Expression of Interest to Contest for the Seat of House of Representatives, Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency,” Yusuf announced his plan to run under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He stated that his decision followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders and supporters across the constituency. According to him, his ambition is driven by a desire to contribute to effective leadership and promote both infrastructural and human capital development in the area.

“I wish to contest for the seat of the House of Representatives… as my contribution to ensure good and qualitative leadership,” he wrote, while appealing for support to realize his goal.

The development was also confirmed by Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to the late president, who noted that the move came after wide-ranging consultations.

Yusuf’s declaration follows an earlier endorsement by APC stakeholders in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State, who reportedly backed him as their preferred candidate for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency.

At a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Sandamu Local Government Secretariat, the council chairman, Usman Na-Lado, described the endorsement as a collective decision. He added that Yusuf’s candidacy was considered based on his perceived capacity and growing acceptance within the party.

The meeting also reaffirmed support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Dikko Radda as the APC’s flag bearers for the 2027 presidential and governorship elections, respectively.
