The Zamfara State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has officially prohibited signing-out or farewell activities in all schools across the state, citing growing concerns about student misconduct.
The directive, communicated in a circular on Monday by Commissioner for Education Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam, was addressed to Governor Dauda Lawal, security agencies, school authorities, and other relevant stakeholders.
The ministry stated that recent farewell events organized by final-year students have frequently devolved into disorderly conduct, undermining the discipline and values expected in schools. Such behaviour, it noted, contradicts the standards the state’s education system seeks to uphold.
With immediate effect, all schools are instructed to suspend signing-out activities. School authorities are also required to meet with stakeholders to ensure full compliance. Parents and guardians have been urged to caution their children against participating in these events.
The circular further warned that students who defy the ban could face severe consequences, including withholding or cancellation of exam results, and in some cases, repeating the final year. Teachers who facilitate or permit such activities may face disciplinary action ranging from warnings to suspension or demotion.
Security personnel, both within schools and from law enforcement agencies, have been tasked with enforcing the directive. Additionally, religious and community leaders have been called upon to guide students and support the state’s efforts to foster discipline.
The ministry emphasized that the ban forms part of Zamfara State Government’s broader strategy to uphold academic focus, instill proper behaviour, and strengthen discipline in schools.
