Zenith Bank Completes Acquisition of Paramount Bank Kenya, Expands East African Footprint

Zenith Bank Plc has announced the completion of its acquisition of Paramount Bank Kenya Limited to expand into the East African financial market.
In a statement dated April 7, 2026, the Nigerian lender confirmed that it has acquired 100 percent of the issued share capital of Paramount Bank Kenya Limited following the receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals from authorities in both Nigeria and Kenya.
The transaction, first disclosed on November 18, 2025, represents a key milestone in Zenith Bank’s long-term growth strategy and reinforces its ambition to deepen its presence across Sub-Saharan Africa.
The bank stated that the acquisition provides a strong entry point into East Africa, a region considered critical to its expansion plans, while also aligning with its strategy of supporting customers’ cross-border business operations.
Zenith Bank said the move strengthens its position as one of Africa’s leading financial institutions and enhances its capacity to serve multinational and regional clients operating across multiple African markets.
The acquisition of Paramount Bank Kenya is expected to improve Zenith Bank’s regional diversification, broaden its revenue base and position the group to capture emerging opportunities within East Africa’s banking sector.
With Kenya serving as a major financial hub in the region, the deal offers Zenith Bank access to a growing economy with increasing demand for corporate banking, trade finance and digital financial services.
Market analysts say the expansion could support the bank’s earnings growth over the medium term as it leverages its balance sheet strength, technology infrastructure and established corporate banking expertise in a new market.
Zenith Bank has continued to pursue a disciplined expansion strategy in recent years, focusing on markets that align with its risk management framework and long-term profitability targets.
The completion of the Paramount Bank Kenya acquisition underscores the bank’s commitment to scaling its African operations while maintaining strong regulatory compliance across jurisdictions.
The bank did not disclose the financial details of the transaction.
Zenith Bank Plc is one of Nigeria’s tier-one lenders with operations in several international markets, including the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates and other African countries.
