No fewer than five members of the House of Representatives from Oyo State have quit the Peoples Democratic Party in three days.
This is coming on the heels of reports that Governor Seyi Makinde may defect from the PDP to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Makinde had on Wednesday met with leaders of the APM in his residence in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Among the House of Representatives members who have left the PDP from Oyo State are Najimdeen Oyedeji, representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal constituency; Adedeji Olajide, Ibadan North-West/South-West Federal Constituency; and Abass Adigun of Ibadan North-East/South-East Federal Constituency.
Others are Anthony Adepoju, representing Ibarapa Central/North Federal Constituency; and Ojo Makanjuola, Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere Federal constituency.
Their reason for quitting centred around the lingering legal battles and unresolved internal conflicts in the PDP.
In his letter dated May 5, 2026, addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Ward 8 of Odinjo-Muslim, Ibadan South-East Local Government Area, Adigun mentioned “the persistent internal crises that have continued to destabilise the party” as one of his reasons for quitting.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Narcotic Drugs said his time in the PDP gave him the opportunity to build lasting relationships and contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the state.
He wrote: “I wish to sincerely appreciate the leadership of the party at the ward, local government, state and national levels, as well as members and supporters in my constituency, who stood by me throughout my political journey in the PDP from 2018 up to this moment.
“I remain grateful for the opportunities given to me to serve.
“Please accept my assurances of highest regards and kindly acknowledge receipt of this letter.”
In his resignation letter dated May 5, 2026 and addressed to the PDP Chairman in Ward 11 of Ibadan South-West LGA, Olajide said he quit the PDP after “extensive consultations” with his “political associates, supporters and constituents”.
He added: “This decision, though difficult, became necessary in view of the prevailing realities within the party structure and my desire to continue to pursue my political aspirations and commitment to public service in an atmosphere that guarantees inclusiveness, stability and progressive engagement.”
