Gunmen abduct two travelers on Ibadan-Ijebu Ode expressway

Gunmen yesterday abducted two persons along the Idi Ayunre axis of the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The incident came barely five days after the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, heightening fears over the worsening security situation in parts of the state.
According to reliable sources, the assailants ambushed the victims while they were travelling towards Ijebu Ode.
Eyewitnesses said the heavily armed attackers opened fire repeatedly to scare residents, passers-by and other motorists before carrying out the operation.
It was learnt that the gunmen, who operated in a commando-like manner, forcefully whisked the victims away to an unknown destination.
It was further gathered that the abductors have yet to establish contact with the victims’ relatives, while no ransom demand has been made as of the time of filing this report.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, officially confirmed the attack and noted that investigations are actively ongoing.
“I can confirm that the incident occurred, and investigations are currently ongoing,” DSP Ayanlade Olayinka said.
