Gunmen Kill Rivers Community Leader In Hotel Attack

A community leader and young politician in Rivers State, Samuel Obe Ngobe, has been shot dead by suspected assassins in Ebubu, Eleme Local Government Area.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred on May 22 at a hotel owned by the deceased in the community.
According to sources, two masked gunmen arrived at the hotel on a motorcycle before storming the premises. The attackers allegedly went directly to Ngobe and opened fire, killing him on the spot.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants also confiscated mobile phones belonging to hotel workers to stop them from alerting residents or security agencies during the attack.
After carrying out the shooting, the gunmen reportedly fled the scene immediately.
Confirming the incident on Monday, the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, said investigations had commenced into the killing.
“The investigation is ongoing,” the police spokesperson stated.
Meanwhile, tension has continued to rise in Kwara State following an attack by suspected bandits on the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters and the palace of the Emir of Yashikira in Kaiama Local Government Area.
The Kwara State Police Command disclosed that the attack happened around 2:00 a.m. on May 25, 2026, when heavily armed men launched a coordinated assault on the community.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the attackers were said to have set parts of the Emir’s palace on fire and abducted at least 10 residents during the operation.
The police, however, revealed that officers stationed at the Yashikira Divisional Headquarters successfully resisted the attack on the police facility.
