Just In: Makinde-backed PDP appoints Turaki, 12 others as caretaker committee
The Makinde-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has ratified a 13-member caretaker committee led by Tanimu Turaki as chairman.
The decision was taken at the factional 103rd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday in Abuja.
The move, backed by Seyi Makinde, followed a motion moved by Edo State PDP Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, and seconded by the party’s ex officio member, Clement Fagboyede.
Members of the committee include Taofeek Arapaja as National Secretary, alongside Daniel Ambrose, Hamza Abuya, Ihediwa, Isah Abubakar, Theophilus Dakashan, Ini Ememobong, Aribisala Adewale Idowu, Baru Shaffi and Okechukwu Obiechina.
The development follows a judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria which nullified the November 2025 Ibadan convention and removed the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
In response, the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), led by Adolphus Wabara, assumed administrative control to prevent a leadership vacuum.
The BoT subsequently convened the NEC meeting that produced the interim leadership.
The committee is expected to stabilise the party and prepare it for the 2027 general elections.
