Nigeria’s sprint hurdles star Tobi Amusan delivered her strongest performance of the season on Sunday, winning the women’s 100m hurdles at the Rabat Diamond League and setting a new meeting record.
Amusan stormed to victory in 12.28 seconds, breaking her own previous record for the meet while also equalling her season-best time. The result marked her first Diamond League win of the 2026 campaign after she opened the season with a second-place finish in Xiamen.
Jamaica’s Devynne Charlton placed second in 12.40 seconds, while the Netherlands’ Nadine Visser came third in 12.47 seconds.
The winning time goes down as the joint third-fastest of Amusan’s career. Her world record of 12.12 seconds, set at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Oregon, remains her personal best, followed by her 12.24 seconds run in Paris in 2025.
After a steady build-up in form this season, the Rabat win added further momentum for the Nigerian star, who recently secured a fourth consecutive African title.
Speaking after the race, Amusan said she was satisfied with her execution and result.
“I am really pleased with the result, I felt like I executed the race close to the best of my ability. Winning was the main objective and a Meeting Record is a fantastic bonus,” she said.
She also praised the atmosphere in Morocco, noting the strong crowd support at the venue.
“The atmosphere in Rabat is incredible and the crowd was absolutely electrifying. I have competed here several times and the support is always special,” she added.
Looking ahead, Amusan said her focus is to stay healthy and maintain peak performance as the Diamond League season continues, with the finale and the 2026 Commonwealth Games still ahead.
