Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under the 2 Division, have successfully rescued a woman and her six-month-old baby who were abducted during a kidnapping attack in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The rescue operation was carried out in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) following a distress call from residents after suspected terrorists attacked the Ijalu area of Egbe on the evening of June 3, 2026.
According to reports, the attackers stormed a residence near the Solid Rock School axis of the community and abducted five members of a family. Among those taken were Mrs. Idowu Kemi Titilayo, her infant child, and three other individuals.
Confirming the development in a statement issued on Thursday, June 4, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 12 Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, disclosed that troops responded immediately after receiving information about the incident.
He explained that soldiers, working alongside local vigilantes, launched a pursuit operation along the route used by the kidnappers as they attempted to escape with their victims.
The Army spokesman revealed that sustained pressure from the security team forced the kidnappers to abandon Mrs. Idowu and her six-month-old baby near the Oro axis of the area before fleeing into nearby surroundings.
The rescued mother and child were safely returned to their home, while security operatives continued intensive search operations aimed at rescuing the remaining abducted victims and apprehending those responsible for the attack.
Lieutenant Abdullahi reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country. He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information that can assist security agencies in combating criminal activities and enhancing public safety.
The Army assured residents that efforts remain ongoing to track down the fleeing kidnappers and secure the release of the other victims still in captivity.
