Deyemi Okanlawon: My Wife Is My Last Resort When Life Gets Tough

Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon has opened up about how he manages pressure, revealing that while his wife is his ultimate emotional anchor, he is careful not to lean on her too often.

Speaking in an interview with Dear Ife, Okanlawon said he deliberately avoids burdening his wife with his struggles because she is already occupied with her career and family responsibilities. However, when the stress becomes unbearable, he does not hesitate to wake her in the middle of the night for comfort and support.

“When the thing is just too hard, there’s my wife. She’s not the first because she’s dealing with her own business and raising the family. But when it’s hitting me too hard, I’ll wake her in the middle of the night and tell her to help me,” he said.

Beyond his wife, the actor disclosed that he has built a solid support network comprising a therapist, mentors, and trusted friends — a system he said helps him process difficult moments without letting pressure pile up unchecked.

Okanlawon used the opportunity to urge men to stop suffering in silence, stressing that carrying every burden alone is neither sustainable nor necessary.

“My job is to protect the people around me. If gbege happens here now, the chances are I’m going to step in front. It’s what needs to happen. There’s no excuse. You also have to be aware enough to find healing,” he added.
