The Ekiti State Government has dismissed as untrue an information circulating regarding a ₦25,000 Election Campaign Cash Transfer Funds from the State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji.
A disclaimer issued on Thursday by the Ekiti State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dayo Apata, SAN, warned the general public to disregard such information to avert being defrauded.
It clarified that the Governor does not engage in any form of cash grant or cash distribution through unofficial channels or online platforms.
“The attention of the GENERAL PUBLIC is hereby drawn to the circulation of a message claiming that the Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency, Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji is distributing ₦25,000 Election Campaign Cash Transfer funds through an online registration link.
“Members of the GENERAL PUBLIC are advised to exercise caution and refrain from clicking, sharing or submitting personal information through this and/or any UNVERIFIED WEBSITE or PLATFORM.
“Unless officially announced through the Governor’s verified communication channels or authorized Government Agencies, such claims should be treated as UNVERIFIED and potentially FRAUDULENT and it is meant to tarnish the good name of the Ekiti State Governor.
“The public is therefore encouraged to disregard this fraudulent publication and also to verify all information through the official State Government sources before taking any action.
“The public should also be aware of the existence of Cybercrime Laws and other relevant legislations.
“The Police are currently investigating the source of this fake news with a view to bringing the Culprits to book,” the disclaimer reads.
