Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has expressed confidence that Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) will emerge victorious in the ongoing governorship election in the state.
Fayose made the declaration on Saturday after casting his vote at Polling Unit 1, St. David Primary School, Afao-Ekiti, in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area.
Speaking with journalists, the former governor said the political atmosphere in the state and the apparent support from residents strongly favour Oyebanji’s re-election bid.
According to him, the governor has already secured victory based on the mood of the electorate and developments across the state.
“Looking at the situation in Ekiti and the body language of the people, I believe Oyebanji has already won the election. I expect him to record a resounding victory,” Fayose said.
Meanwhile, the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dare Bejide, also cast his vote at the Oke Adura Polling Unit in Ekiti South West Local Government Area.
While commending the turnout of voters, Bejide raised concerns over alleged vote-buying at the polling centre. He claimed that individuals linked to a political party were distributing money to voters.
The ADC candidate alleged that he confronted a woman accused of sharing cash and that the situation escalated after she contacted her superior.
“There were claims that a woman was giving money to voters. When I challenged her, she called her boss, and the council chairman later arrived and began insulting me,” Bejide alleged.
Voting continues across Ekiti State as residents elect their next governor amid reports of high voter participation.
