Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle affecting three commissioners, alongside the appointment of three officials to strategic government positions as part of efforts to improve governance and service delivery across the state.
The changes were announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Malam Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, through the Senior Special Assistant on Media in the Office of the SSG, Suleman Ahmad Tudu.
According to Nakwada, the reshuffle is aimed at enhancing efficiency within key ministries and advancing the implementation of the administration’s Rescue Agenda.
Under the new arrangement, the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Hon. Abdulrahman Tumbido, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. Hon. Kasimu Yahya Kaura, who previously headed the Environment and Natural Resources Ministry, will now oversee the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development. Meanwhile, Hon. Tasiu Musa Shinkafi has been moved from Youth and Sports Development to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
The state government said the redeployments take immediate effect, directing the affected commissioners to complete all handover procedures within one week.
Nakwada explained that the changes were designed to improve coordination among ministries, strengthen institutional performance, and align government operations with Governor Lawal’s development priorities.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to building stronger public institutions and ensuring that ministries effectively discharge their responsibilities.
In addition to the cabinet reshuffle, Governor Lawal approved the appointment of Dr. Muhammad Habibu Yelwa as Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Substance Abuse and Control Agency, while Dr. Usman Ismaila Gusau was named Executive Secretary of the Zamfara State Livestock Agency.
The governor also reappointed Alhaji Abdullahi Mohammed Nakwada as State Project Coordinator of the Zamfara State Agricultural and Community Development Project.
The SSG stated that the appointments form part of ongoing reforms aimed at improving performance in critical sectors, including public health, agriculture, livestock development, and community-based initiatives.
He urged the newly appointed officials to demonstrate innovation, dedication, and professionalism in their respective roles, stressing the importance of supporting the administration’s developmental goals.
The state government maintained that both the cabinet reshuffle and fresh appointments underscore Governor Lawal’s determination to reposition the administration for greater efficiency and improved service delivery to the people of Zamfara State.
