Twenty Western countries have expressed “deep concern” at Israel’s move to ban humanitarian agencies from operating in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
Dozens of aid agencies have refused to comply with the government’s draconian registration rules and have had their licenses revoked.
Israel’s Supreme Court last month sided with the government and gave the organisations 30 days to comply or have their operations shut down.
“The recent decision by the Israeli High Court to reject the INGOs’ appeal regarding the registration law is deeply concerning,” the countries said in a joint statement on Monday. “We again strongly urge Israel to not implement the registration law in its current form.”
Signatories include France, the Netherlands, the UK, Sweden, Japan and Australia.
