Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has assured residents that no eligible voter will be denied the opportunity to participate in the ongoing governorship election, despite technical glitches reported at some polling units.
Speaking on Saturday after casting his vote alongside his wife at Polling Unit 003, Oyebanji’s Compound, RA 06, in Ekiti West Local Government Area, the governor expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the election, describing the process as peaceful and orderly.
Oyebanji said reports from across the state indicated that voting was progressing smoothly, with a large number of residents turning out to exercise their civic rights.
The governor acknowledged that some polling units experienced delays due to difficulties with electronic voter accreditation devices, which affected the verification of some voters during the early stages of the exercise.
He, however, urged voters to remain calm and patient, assuring them that the challenges would not prevent anyone from voting.
According to him, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured the state government that the technical issues would be resolved promptly to ensure the smooth continuation of the election.
Oyebanji stressed that all voters who had arrived at polling centres would be given the chance to cast their ballots once the accreditation challenges were addressed.
He also commended residents for the impressive turnout, noting that their willingness to participate in the electoral process reflected a strong commitment to democracy.
“The reports I have received are positive. Voting is going on peacefully, and the turnout is very encouraging. I am pleased that our people responded to the call to come out and vote,” he said.
“I want to appeal to everyone to remain patient because every eligible voter will be allowed to vote. INEC has assured us that those who have come out to participate will not be disenfranchised.”
