Police Detain Popular TikToker Over Boyfriend’s Death in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has taken a popular TikTok content creator, Fati Cele, into custody following the death of her boyfriend, Isma’il Makaye, at her residence in the Danbare area of Kano.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the development while speaking with Punch, noting that the suspect is currently being held as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the incident. He, however, declined to give further details.

A source close to the deceased claimed that a distress alert was raised from the residence, initially reporting a fire outbreak. Makaye was reportedly rushed to Nassarawa Hospital for medical attention but was later confirmed dead.

The deceased, a cosmetics trader based in the Hotoro Tishama area of Kano, was laid to rest at Unguwa Uku Yan Awaki after his body was released to his family according to Islamic burial rites.

Police from the Dorayi Babba Division later took Fati Cele into custody as part of ongoing investigations into what led to the incident.

In a related development, the Kano Emirate Council, under the leadership of the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, recently ordered the immediate closure of Stephrica Guest Palace Hotel in the Kumbotso Local Government Area following complaints from residents. The council said the action followed multiple petitions over activities at the facility and was taken to address community concerns and maintain public order.
