Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have rescued a kidnapped victim during a coordinated security operation in a forest located between Nekede, Ihiagwa and Agbala communities in Owerri West Local Government Area.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Sunday, saying the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to flush out criminal gangs and strengthen security across the state.
According to Okoye, the operation was personally led on Saturday by the Commissioner of Police, Audu Bosso, alongside local vigilance operatives. He explained that the exercise followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, issued through the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-East Zone, to intensify efforts against criminal activities in the region.
He said the mission was designed to dismantle criminal hideouts, strengthen internal security and deny kidnappers and other violent offenders safe havens within the state.
During the operation, security personnel successfully rescued an injured kidnap victim identified as Chinonaobi Uchegbulam, a native of Ubaha Orodo, from one of the forest camps.
The victim was immediately evacuated to a medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment. Police said his condition is stable and he is responding positively to medical care.
Okoye stated that Commissioner Bosso commended the officers and local vigilante members who participated in the operation, praising their courage, professionalism and commitment to protecting lives and property.
He reaffirmed the command’s determination to sustain intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks operating in forests and other remote locations across the state.
“The Imo State Police Command remains resolute in making the state unsafe for kidnappers and all violent criminal groups,” the spokesperson said.
The command also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information that could aid ongoing operations against kidnapping and other violent crimes.
Members of the public were advised to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or contact the command’s emergency response line on 0803 477 3600.
The police expressed confidence that continued collaboration between residents and security agencies would significantly enhance efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
