2027 Elections: Nine Political Parties Obtain INEC Access Codes for Candidate Nominations

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that nine registered political parties have obtained access codes required to upload the particulars of their candidates for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.

INEC’s National Commissioner for Voter Education and Publicity, Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday, stating that the parties had collected the codes as of the close of business on Monday.

According to him, the parties are Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), National Democratic Party (NDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Haruna explained that it is the responsibility of each political party intending to participate in the elections to request and collect the access code from INEC. He noted that the commission does not distribute the codes directly to party offices.

He added that anyone collecting the access code on behalf of a political party must present a valid letter of authorisation issued by the party’s leadership.

The INEC commissioner also reminded political parties that the commission had already released detailed guidelines for candidate nominations and conducted training sessions for party officials on the nomination process.

Haruna urged parties to avoid delaying the submission of their candidates’ details until the deadline, warning that last-minute uploads could create unnecessary challenges.

He noted that although INEC had extended the daily submission deadline from the close of business to midnight on the final day, parties that failed to complete the process on time would bear responsibility for any resulting issues.

According to the commission’s timetable for the 2027 general elections, political parties are expected to submit nomination forms for presidential and National Assembly candidates through INEC’s online nomination portal between June 27 and July 11.

The timetable further indicates that the submission of nomination forms for governorship and State House of Assembly elections will take place from July 18 to August 8.
