Bahrain said Iranian drones targeted its air navigation systems on Monday, though traffic remained unaffected, while Kuwait also reported attacks as the United States and Iran traded strikes.
A shaky US-Iran ceasefire has all but collapsed as Iran began attacking vessels using an Omani route in the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, the US has attacked Iran, which has responded with strikes on the Gulf and other Arab countries.
“As a result of a hostile Iranian act of aggression against the Kingdom of Bahrain, civil air navigation systems… were targeted by hostile drones,” Bahrain’s aviation authority said.
“However, air navigation operations remained unaffected,” it added.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards later said they targeted American assets at two air bases in Bahrain and the main port in the island kingdom.
On Monday afternoon, air raid sirens blared once more in Bahrain, and reports stated that explosions were heard in the capital Manama.
Bahrain’s military had said in the morning that it “intercepted and destroyed a number of Iranian aerial attacks”.
The US embassy in Manama had said it had “information to suggest that Iran may seek to target unspecified locations in central Manama”.
The Iranian army said early Tuesday it had targeted a US base in Kuwait with missiles.
“The army’s ground forces targeted the HIMARS missile systems of the US terrorist army stationed at the Arifjan base in Kuwait with surface-to-surface missiles,” state news agency IRNA said, quoting the army’s public relations officials.
“HIMARS is a mobile missile system with the ability to move quickly against ground targets, which, when targeted, causes damage to the offensive and defensive layers and reduces the enemy’s missile power in aggressive crimes,” it said.
Camp Arifjan, located south of Kuwait City, accommodates elements of the US Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard.
Earlier on Monday, Kuwait’s military said it was responding to renewed missile and drone salvos.
“Kuwaiti air defences are currently confronting hostile missile and drone attacks,” the Gulf state’s army said in a statement blaming Iran, amid explosions in Kuwait City.
Both Kuwait and Bahrain, which host US military installations, have borne the brunt of attacks by Iran on its Gulf neighbours since hostilities resumed this month.
Bahrain has accused Iran of targeting civilians, while Kuwait has reported Iranian attacks on water and electricity plants as well as oil facilities.
