Explosion Triggers Fire at Apapa Tank Farm as NPA, NIMASA Battle Blaze

A fire outbreak triggered by an explosion caused panic at the Bono Tank Farm located within the Best Energy Tank Farm complex in Ibafon, Apapa, Lagos, on Friday morning, forcing residents and workers to flee the area.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the day after a loud explosion-like sound echoed across the tank farm cluster, sparking fears of a major disaster.

Emergency responders, including fire service teams from the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), swiftly mobilised to the scene to contain the blaze and stop it from spreading to nearby tank farms and facilities.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact cause of the fire had not been determined, while details surrounding the incident remained unclear.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident, stating that no casualties had been recorded.

She said firefighters and other emergency personnel were working tirelessly to bring the situation under control and prevent further damage to adjoining facilities.

Attempts to obtain comments from the management of Bono Tank Farm and Best Energy Tank Farm were unsuccessful, as calls and text messages sent to their representatives received no response.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as efforts to completely extinguish the fire and assess the extent of the damage continue.
