The Opawole and Daniel families are mourning the death of Chief Mrs. Sabainah Ibironke Opawole, née Osoba, a revered matriarch whose passing at 93 has drawn condolences from across Ogun State and beyond.
Chief Mrs. Opawole died peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2026, after a brief illness. Her family described her life as one anchored in faith, family, and quiet dignity, values they say she carried with her until her final days.
Born on April 23, 1933, the late matriarch traced her lineage to royalty and the clergy. Her mother, Princess Mariam Ladigbolu, hailed from the storied Ladigbolu family of the Oyo Kingdom, while her father, the Late Rev. O. Osoba, was a clergyman from Olodo Village in Abeokuta. She remained a devoted member of the Baptist faith throughout her life.
She is survived by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, among them Her Excellency Yeye Olufunke Daniel, former First Lady of Ogun State and wife of Otunba Senator Gbenga Daniel. Tributes have poured in from family, friends, and associates who remember her as a woman of grace, resilience, and unwavering faith.
The family said funeral arrangements would be announced in due course and appealed to well-wishers for prayers and understanding as they mourn their loss.
