Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, says reuniting rescued pupils and teachers with their families and supporting their rehabilitation will be his administration’s top priority.
The victims were freed after 56 days in captivity, having been abducted in the Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
Makinde disclosed this in a post on his 𝕏 account on Friday, expressing relief over their safe return.
He said the state government’s immediate focus was ensuring the rescued pupils and teachers were properly reunited with their families, with adequate care provided to help them heal from the trauma of their ordeal.
“Our priority now is to ensure they are reunited with their families and support their rehabilitation after this traumatic experience,” Makinde said.
The governor did not give details of the rehabilitation programme but assured that victims would get the support needed for full recovery.
He commended the security agencies involved in the rescue operation for their courage, professionalism and sacrifices.
“We also commend the security agencies that took part in the rescue operations for their sacrifices,” he said.
Makinde also paid tribute to security personnel who died during the operation, extending condolences to their families.
“May the souls of those who paid the ultimate price rest in peace, and may God comfort their families,” he added.
