The National Woman Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prof. Adenike Ogunshe, has expressed delight over the safe rescue of 44 pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Community, Oyo State.
The victims were kidnapped from their schools in Ahoro-Esiele in Oriire LGA of Oyo State on May 15, 2026 by armed abductors.
However, after 58 days in captivity they were rescued on Friday through the joint efforts of security agencies and local vigilante groups.
In a statement made available to journalists on Saturday in Ibadan, Ogunshe described the rescue as a development that had brought renewed hope and relief to the victims’ families and Nigerians at large.
“We thank God for His mercy, protection and intervention throughout this difficult period,” she said.
The PDP national woman leader also called for sustained prayers and collective efforts toward achieving lasting peace, security and national unity.
“As we celebrate their freedom, let us continue to pray for lasting peace, security and unity across our nation,” she added.
Ogunshe further prayed for divine comfort for the affected families, the restoration of every lost joy, and renewed strength for security agencies in their ongoing efforts to safeguard lives and property across the country.
