The Ogun State Police Command has killed two suspected kidnappers during a tactical operation that also led to the successful rescue of the abducted Prince of Okun Owa, Prince Idris.
The operation, carried out by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, followed days of intelligence-driven investigations and sustained pressure on the criminal gang responsible for the abduction.
Prince Idris was kidnapped on June 30, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m. after armed men reportedly stormed his residence in Okun Owa and whisked him away.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, immediately deployed the Anti-Kidnapping Unit alongside other tactical teams to ensure the safe rescue of the royal family member and arrest those behind the crime.
According to the police, the sustained operation forced the kidnappers to release Prince Idris unharmed on July 3, 2026.
Following his rescue, security operatives intensified efforts to track down the fleeing suspects. Acting on credible intelligence, the police raided the Agoro/Imodi area, where members of the gang reportedly opened fire on the operatives.
The police returned fire, killing two of the suspected kidnappers, while other gang members escaped with gunshot wounds.
During a search of the deceased suspects, officers recovered an AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag believed to have been used for collecting ransom, and other items linked to the kidnapping.
The command said the bodies of the slain suspects had been deposited in a government morgue for autopsy, while investigations continue to arrest the fleeing gang members and recover more evidence.
Commending the officers involved in the operation, Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni praised the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and supporting tactical teams for their bravery, professionalism and operational efficiency.
He reiterated the command’s determination to dismantle criminal networks across Ogun State and urged residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information.
Ojajuni also assured the public that the command would strengthen intelligence-led policing and tactical operations to enhance the safety of lives and property throughout the state.
