Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Kayode Are, has expressed optimism that President Bola Tinubu could make an official visit to Washington before the end of his tenure, with the possibility of meeting U.S. President Donald Trump.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Inside Sources, hosted by Laolu Akande, Ambassador Are said any presidential trip would depend on President Tinubu’s schedule and official engagements.
According to him, discussions between Nigeria and the United States remain active at various levels, even though both leaders have yet to meet in person.
“The relationship between the two countries is progressing well, and I believe we will achieve that one way or another,” Are said. “The itinerary of a president determines where he goes and where he cannot go.”
He added that ongoing diplomatic engagement between both nations has remained strong, describing the level of communication as robust despite the absence of a face-to-face meeting between Tinubu and Trump.
“There is a good level of contact and engagement from top to bottom. Even if you have not seen the two presidents together physically, there is significant engagement taking place,” he stated.
The ambassador said he hopes a presidential visit to the United States will happen before his tenure ends, noting that it would be a proud moment to receive President Tinubu in Washington.
“I would hope that during my tenure a presidential visit would be possible. It would give me the greatest joy to receive my President, and I know many Nigerians would be happy. But, of course, that depends on contingencies,” Are added.
