Geregu Power Appoints Mohammed Jaoji as Acting CEO After Sean Manley’s Exit

Geregu Power Plc has appointed Mohammed Sani Jaoji as Acting Chief Executive Officer following the expiration of Sean Manley’s tenure as Interim CEO.

The power generation company disclosed the leadership change in a regulatory filing dated August 17, 2026, saying Jaoji’s appointment took effect the same day and remains subject to approval by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.

Jaoji brings more than 30 years of experience in Nigeria’s power industry to the position, having worked across technical, operational and leadership roles in both the public and private sectors.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and is registered with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria.

His career includes experience at the defunct National Electric Power Authority before joining Geregu Power, where he served as Head of Maintenance Planning and Performance between 2007 and 2019.

Jaoji subsequently moved into government, serving as Technical Assistant to the Minister of Power from 2019 to 2023, before returning to Geregu Power.

The appointment follows the company’s decision not to renew the tenure of Interim CEO Sean Manley, whose term ended on August 14.

Geregu Power said Jaoji will lead the company in an acting capacity while the board works toward appointing a substantive chief executive.

The board expects his appointment to strengthen the company’s governance and strategic direction during the transition period.

The leadership change comes at an important period for Geregu Power.

Earlier in August, the company addressed concerns surrounding its bond repayment obligations, saying its board and management had undertaken a comprehensive review and reconciliation of its liabilities, financing arrangements, operational commitments and other financial obligations.

Geregu said at the time that it was engaging relevant stakeholders and advisers as it worked toward resolving the outstanding issues while maintaining its power generation operations.

Jaoji will therefore assume leadership as the company navigates those financial matters alongside its core responsibility of generating electricity for the Nigerian market.

Geregu Power is listed on the Nigerian Exchange Limited and operates the Geregu power plant in Kogi State.
