The Nigeria Democratic Congress has commenced the mobilisation of polling agents nationwide ahead of the 2027 general elections, directing its state and Local Government Area chairmen to compile and harmonise lists of party agents within two weeks.
The directive was contained in a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, on Tuesday.
The party directed all state and LGA chairmen to immediately meet with candidates and other relevant stakeholders to collate and harmonise the names of agents for the forthcoming elections.
The NDC said the exercise was being carried out in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.
Two separate sets of agents are to be compiled — one for the National Assembly elections and another for the governorship and state House of Assembly elections.
The lists will subsequently be scrutinised and ratified by the party leadership, including its presidential candidate and running mate, before training begins.
The party also directed that the agreed lists must be counter-signed by the state chairmen and the respective candidates to authenticate the nominations and establish ownership.
It further stated that where disagreements arise between party leaders and candidates over the selection of agents, the candidate’s choice would prevail.
The statement read in part: “That State and LGA Chairmen shall meet with candidates and stakeholders to generate a comprehensive list of two sets of party agents; those for national assembly elections and another set for governorship/state assembly elections.
“These party agents shall be scrutinised and ratified by the party’s leadership, including the presidential candidate and his running mate, before training commences.”
The party gave the state and LGA chairmen two weeks to conclude the exercise and submit the final lists for approval.
Director assured members, supporters and other stakeholders that the party’s structures were ready for the campaign and the 2027 elections.
He said: “The leadership of the party wishes to reassure all members, supporters and stakeholders that the National Democratic Congress is fully prepared and ready for a robust, issue-based campaign, with all necessary structures firmly in place for victory.”
