The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared its readiness to secure victory for all its candidates in the 2027 general elections, following a three-day strategic retreat by its national leadership and stakeholders.
This was just as the party also passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the presidential poll.
The resolutions were reached at the APC’s 195th National Working Committee meeting and National Strategic Retreat, which ended in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Saturday.
Presenting the communiqué at the conclusion of the gathering, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, said the party had reviewed its internal structures and found itself united and prepared for the 2027 elections.
Yilwatda said, “We get a clean bill of health with the APC as a party. I trust strongly that the party is strong, the party is healthy, the party is prepared, and the party is oiled for the 2027 General Elections.”
The national chairman said the NWC had unconditionally endorsed Tinubu and Shettima as the party’s presidential candidate and running mate, respectively, alongside candidates who emerged from the party’s primary elections for various elective positions.
“We pass a vote of confidence on our presidential candidate, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, and all the other candidates of our party that were elected in the primary elections for the 2027 general election,” he stated.
Yilwatda also defended the calibre of candidates produced by the party, saying they were qualified and prepared to seek elective offices across the country.
He said, “We strongly believe that we produce some of the most pedigreed candidates, most acceptable and the most prepared to be elected to serve the people of Nigeria.”
On internal disagreements within the party, the APC leadership resolved to intensify reconciliation efforts and strengthen peacebuilding mechanisms at the grassroots.
According to Yilwatda, state, local government and ward-level organs would be encouraged to establish reconciliation committees to address grievances and promote unity among members.
“We resolved that we must continue to make reconciliation where we need to make reconciliation at all levels,” he said.
“The effort to constitute reconciliation committees at the state, the local government, and also at the ward level [will be intensified]. We encourage the state chapters to constitute reconciliation committees where it is not done.”
Politics Nigeria reports that the APC further resolved that its national officers would play a more active role in the party’s campaigns ahead of the elections.
“The National Working Committee also resolved to lead the campaign from the front and all the engagement of the party to ensure total victory for all our candidates in the forthcoming general elections,” the communiqué stated.
Themed “Strengthening Party Organization, Unity and Electoral Readiness Towards 2027,” the retreat began on Thursday, September 24, and ended on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
The gathering brought together members of the NWC, state party chairmen and other key stakeholders from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to review the APC’s organisational preparedness and electoral strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
