Natives of Amaikpu Village of Iheagu Nru in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State have called on the government at all levels to ensure that the killers of Dr Anthony Ifeanyi Ogbu, former Chairman of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association, Federal Capital Territory chapter, are bought to book.
They also demanded more efforts towards rescuing the daughter of the deceased whose whereabouts remain unknown since she was kidnapped alongside his father and brothers from their apartment at Kubwa in Abuja in 2025.
THE WHISTLER reports that the quartet was kidnapped on the night of Friday, October 3, 2025. One of the kidnapped sons managed to escape from the captivity of the abductors, and had since reunited with the bereaved family. The lifeless body of the deceased vet doctor was later found by the roadside at Kubwa. His two kidnapped children remained in captivity. However, the corpse of one of them was discovered some months ago, while the whereabouts of the remaining girl remain uncertain.
Our correspondent reports that the deceased will be buried at his Amaikpu Village on Wednesday, 30th September, 2026. It was gathered that the deceased was born in 1981.
A native of the community, identified as Fred, said the killing of their illustrious son had remained an unforgettable episode in the life of the community.
According to him, “The killers have not been arrested. No justice has been done. Dr Ogbu was a philanthropist, hard-worker and community developer. His first son managed to escape from the den, the corpse of his other child was discovered a couple of months ago while his girl-child, also kidnapped on the same day, has not been heard of since then. It is unfortunate, more so when the ransom demanded by the kidnappers was fully paid as alleged. This is a story of three persons of a family dying through the instrumentality of kidnappers.”
Mrs Janet Egbo, a resident of the community, appealed for help for the family. “This is really a trying moment for the young family. This man they murdered is the breadwinner of the family. They need psycho-social support. They also need help. I personally appeal to Gov Peter Mbah of Enugu State, the Chairman of Nsukka LGA, Mr Jude Asogwa, and other well-meaning people to find succour to this grieving family. Our senator, Ikeje Asogwa, and our rich people should come forward. The remaining children can be awarded scholarships. They have other needs. The wife can also be employed by the state if she is unemployed. These are my passionate appeals.”
“I know him very well,” narrates Simon Odo. “He is awarded the title of Uruoha 1 of Nru Kingdom. The title means that he is a gain to all. He has a self-funding foundation that trains hundreds of indigent students in secondary and tertiary institutions. His killers have dashed the hopes of so many students who are less privileged that are schooling under this foundation.”
Recall that the FCT chapter of NVMA confirmed the death of Dr Ogbu in a release signed by its Administrative Secretary, Dr Joshua Katkyes.
