A man identified as Muhammadu Usman Fulani of Kato Village in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State reportedly lost a hand after engaging in a cutlass fight with another man, Muhammadu Aliyu Fulani, in Beji community.
The incident occurred at about 1:20am on Monday, September 28, 2026, following a confrontation between the two men over an unidentified woman, according to a police situation report obtained by SaharaReporters.
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that Usman had travelled to Beji, where he reportedly met Aliyu in the company of the woman.
According to the police report, Usman approached Aliyu and told him that he wanted to speak with the woman.
The encounter, however, reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation after both men allegedly drew their cutlasses and engaged each other in a fight.
During the clash, Usman sustained severe injuries which reportedly resulted in the amputation of one of his hands.
Aliyu was also injured, suffering multiple cutlass wounds of varying degrees during the confrontation.
The incident was subsequently brought to the attention of the Officer-in-Charge of Beji after a distress call was received from the General Hospital, Beji.
The police report, signed from the office of the Divisional Police Officer, Maikunkele, stated that Usman was taken to General Hospital Beji for treatment, while Aliyu was rushed to Hajiya Zainab Clinic in Beji.
Both men were reportedly responding to treatment as of the time the police situation report was issued.
The police said investigation into the circumstances surrounding the violent confrontation had commenced.
The incident adds to concerns over violent disputes arising from interpersonal conflicts, with the police expected to establish what triggered the fight and determine any further legal action arising from the case.
