Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has ordered the immediate dissolution of boards, commissions and parastatals across the state and terminated the appointments of political appointees as his first term winds down ahead of his second-term inauguration.
The governor’s directive, announced on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, in Ado-Ekiti, affects a wide range of political appointees, including Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants and Technical Assistants.
Oyebanji said the decision was part of the transition process ahead of the inauguration of his second term scheduled for October 16, 2026.
The governor, however, carved out several statutory institutions and key officials from the sweeping dissolution and termination exercise.
According to the statement, the dissolution does not affect the chairmen and members of the State Independent Electoral Commission, Civil Service Commission, House of Assembly Service Commission and Judicial Service Commission.
Also exempted from the termination are the chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Local Government Service Commission and Teaching Service Commission.
Although the boards of the three agencies have been dissolved, their respective chairmen will remain in office, the governor said.
Oyebanji also retained the Directors-General and technical advisers, while the governing councils of all state-owned tertiary institutions will remain intact.
The governor expressed appreciation to the affected political appointees for their contributions to his administration and their service to Ekiti State.
He wished them success in their future endeavours.
The development comes as Oyebanji prepares to commence his second term in office, following the conclusion of his first tenure.
