Nigerian activist and 2027 African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has joined pro-Palestine protesters in New York, United States, calling for an end to Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.
Sowore disclosed his participation in the protest in a post on his official X account on Friday, September 25, 2026.
The demonstration took place on Thursday, September 24, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited New York to address the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Sowore said he participated in the protest to express solidarity with Palestinians and call for justice and respect for human rights.
He wrote: “Yes, today in New York, I joined the Free Palestine protest. No justice, no peace! #FreePalestine!
“I condemn the genocide being committed by the state of Israel in Gaza.
“I joined to make it clear that Nigerians stand for justice and human rights for Palestinians.”
Several demonstrations were held in New York on Thursday in connection with Netanyahu’s visit to the UN.
Protesters gathered around the United Nations headquarters, with some blocking roads while demanding accountability over Israel’s military operations in Gaza and an end to US military support for Israel.
Police arrested some demonstrators during the protests. Reports said at least 30 people, including actors and politicians, were arrested during one demonstration outside the UN.
Subsequent reports indicated that more than 100 people were arrested across different protests in New York.
The demonstrations took place as Netanyahu defended Israel’s actions in Gaza during his UN address. During the speech, dozens of delegates also reportedly walked out of the General Assembly hall.
Sowore’s participation in the protest comes as he continues his political activities ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election.
