.The Independent National Electoral Commission has intensified voter mobilisation in Ondo State ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging eligible voters to verify their details on the preliminary register of voters and collect their Permanent Voter Cards.
The appeal was made by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ondo State, Dr Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, during the commission’s senatorial district stakeholders’ engagement and voter education meeting in Okitipupa, the headquarters of the district.
Agboke reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to conducting credible elections, insisting that valid votes must count and the wishes of the electorate must be respected.
The engagement formed part of the commission’s ongoing preparations for the 2027 general elections and efforts to strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.
The REC urged eligible voters to take advantage of the nationwide display of the Preliminary Register of Voters and the simultaneous collection of Permanent Voter Cards, which commenced on Friday, October 9, 2026.
He encouraged residents across Ondo State’s 203 electoral wards to participate in the exercise, verify their voter information and take the necessary steps to ensure their readiness to vote in the forthcoming elections.
The display of the preliminary register provides an opportunity for voters to check their registration details and identify possible errors requiring correction, while PVC collection remains an important step for eligible voters preparing to exercise their franchise.
In a related voter education engagement, Agboke visited the Okitipupa Central Mosque on Friday, where he joined Muslim faithful for the Jumu’ah prayer.
During the visit, he appealed to members of the congregation to participate actively in the ongoing voter registration verification and PVC collection exercise.
The commission said its engagements with stakeholders and community groups were aimed at promoting civic responsibility, improving voter awareness and encouraging broader participation in the 2027 general elections.
INEC’s latest mobilisation effort comes as preparations for the next general elections gather momentum, with voter education and public participation expected to play significant roles in the credibility of the electoral process.
The commission reiterated its commitment to engaging communities and relevant stakeholders to ensure that eligible voters are adequately informed about electoral procedures ahead of the polls.
