Court Strikes Out FG’s Eight-Count Charge Against Fake Agency DG

The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the eight-count criminal charge filed by the Federal Government against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is accused of parading himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

Justice Mohammed Garba Umar struck out the charge on Monday following an application by the Federal Government seeking to terminate the proceedings and transfer the case to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for fresh arraignment.

At the proceedings, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), told the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had reviewed the case file and identified loopholes in the charge initially filed by the Inspector-General of Police.

Oyedepo said the alleged offences involving documents purportedly forged by Adeyemi were matters that could be prosecuted before the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.

He informed the court that a fresh charge had already been filed before the FCT High Court and that the government intended to arraign Adeyemi afresh without delay.

The prosecutor subsequently urged Justice Umar to strike out the existing charge in accordance with the law.

Counsel to Adeyemi, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application.

Following the submissions, Justice Umar struck out the eight-count charge, effectively terminating the proceedings before the Federal High Court and paving the way for the fresh prosecution at the FCT High Court.

Adeyemi, 38, had been standing trial alongside two other defendants, identified only as Femi and Anu, whose whereabouts were said to be unknown.

The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025, involved allegations bordering on conspiracy and forgery.
