FRSC Mourns As Ex-Corps Marshal Dauda Biu Dies At 62

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has mourned its former Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali Biu, describing his death as a painful loss to the organisation and the country.
The current corps marshal, alongside the management and workforce of the agency, expressed shock over Biu’s death.
They said his contributions to the development of the corps and road safety administration would remain part of its institutional legacy.
Biu reportedly died on Sunday evening at a hospital in Abuja at the age of 62.
In a condolence message on Monday, the FRSC described the late officer as a distinguished professional whose career was marked by dedication, discipline and commitment to public service.
The statement noted that Biu joined the corps in its formative years and rose through the ranks to become its seventh substantive Corps Marshal, serving from July 2022 to May 2024.
It added that his tenure reflected his commitment to advancing road safety administration, operational effectiveness and institutional development.
“His passing is therefore not merely the loss of a former leader; it is the loss of a colleague, a seasoned professional and a compatriot who devoted a significant part of his life to the service of humanity and the safety of Nigerians,” the statement said.
The corps extended its condolences to Biu’s immediate family, friends, associates and others affected by his death, praying that God would grant them the strength to bear the loss.
“May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Paradise (Aljannah),” the statement added.
Biu’s nephew, Adamu-Isa Gunda, had confirmed his death, saying his remains would be transported from Abuja to Chikaji, Sabon Gari, Zaria, Kaduna State, for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Gunda said the deceased, who held the traditional title of Jagaban Sabon Gari, was survived by his wife and five children.
Born in 1964 in Sabon Gari, Zaria, Kaduna State, Biu joined the FRSC in 1988 and rose through the ranks during his career.
He became Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of Finance and Accounts in 2014 and was promoted to Deputy Corps Marshal in 2016, later overseeing financial administration at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
He was appointed Acting Corps Marshal by former President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2022 following the retirement of his predecessor, Boboye Oyeyemi, and subsequently served as the corps’ substantive head until May 2024.
The FRSC said his service to the nation would not be forgotten.
