Kano Halts Goron Dutse Water Supply After Pipelines Burst

The Kano State Government has temporarily stopped water distribution from the Goron Dutse Water Reservoir after high pressure caused pipelines to burst at several locations across the metropolis.
The Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Dahiru Muhammad Hashim, said the suspension would allow engineers to repair the damaged pipelines.
The reservoir recently began supplying water to parts of Kano metropolis after the government announced the commencement of distribution.
Hashim said the initial flow put pressure on the existing distribution network, resulting in bursts at different points.
He said water supply would resume once repairs are completed.
“We will not relent in our efforts. Once the repairs are completed, water distribution will continue as promised, God willing,” the commissioner said.
He appealed to residents to report burst pipelines and other faults affecting water distribution to enable the ministry to respond quickly.
Residents can send photographs or videos of affected locations to the ministry through 07078595955 or kanoenvironment@gmail.com.
The government had earlier said the Goron Dutse reservoir was part of efforts to improve water supply across Kano metropolis.
