Kano Phone Traders Confront Chinese Nationals Over Direct Sales

Mobile phone traders in Kano State have reportedly confronted Chinese nationals accused of selling phones directly to customers at prices lower than those offered by local retailers.

A viral video circulating on social media showed traders arguing that the Chinese nationals were undermining their businesses by bypassing local retailers and selling directly to consumers at cheaper rates.

The traders said they operated under an association and questioned the right of the Chinese nationals to sell directly to customers at prices they considered unfair to local businesses.

The incident has drawn attention amid a similar controversy in Lagos, where some Igbo traders protested against the direct sale of goods by Chinese nationals, reportedly accusing them of undercutting local retailers.

The Lagos incident sparked reactions from several public figures, including Lere Olayinka and Dotun, who reportedly commented on the dispute.

However, the figures have yet to publicly react to the reported confrontation in Kano.

Details surrounding the Kano incident, including the identities of the Chinese nationals involved and whether any formal complaints have been lodged with the relevant authorities, remain unclear.
